The evolution has been reversed
The clothing standards among our young people has definitely declined since about the mid 1970s. I think it’s pretty hard to deny this, although I readily admit that not every young person today dresses inappropriately or slovenly. However, there’s a culture in place that essentially encourages young folks to dress in ways that would have shocked prior generations.
Reflective of perhaps a more innocent period during our history, Americans during the 1950′s and 1960s generally wore clothes that fit well, were clean and pressed, and tended to avoid loud or flashy colors. There was a more ‘conservative’ attitude about how one appeared in public among the general populace. People ‘dressed up’ when they went to the movies, a doctor’s appointment or even to the grocery store. A common decency prevailed. Even during the liberal 1970s, young people normally wore clothes that were presentable and form-fitting. There appeared to be a greater appreciation for ‘looking nice.’
Today’s young people, in contrast, wear some of the most god-awful clothes. Sometimes referred to as a ‘homeless chic’ look, their clothes are often ill-fitting, over-sized and baggy, and the fashion trend among many white teens is to follow the thug or gangster look of inner-city blacks and Mexican ‘cholos.’
Our young women tend to dress provocatively, and it’s quite common to see even young teenage girls with tattoos and piercings. I believe that most of the changes we’ve seen in the past few decades are the direct result of the degrading moral and societal influences brought about by Leftists beginning in the mid 1960s. It’s apparent that we still haven’t recovered from the disastrous 60s revolution.
In the following photographs, I invite you to take a look at how young people dressed during the 1950s, 1960′s, 1970s and today. The contrast should be very apparent between prior decades and the current one. Observe also how ‘proper,’ trim and feminine the young ladies were as opposed to many of the female beasts and the thuggish males we witness everyday.
Even the Rolling Stones dressed quite mild compared to today’s standards
